Composition of the Two Houses

Subject: Polity

Description

Composition of the Two Houses

The Lok Sabha is composed of members directly elected by the people as prescribed in Article 80, while the Rajya Sabha comprises members elected by the elected members of the State Legislative Assemblies and by the members of the Electoral College for Union Territories. In addition, the President may nominate a limited number of members in the Rajya Sabha for their expertise in fields such as literature, science, art, or social service.

This dual structure ensures that both direct popular representation and federal interests are maintained within the legislative framework.
