At the time of appointment, the Prime Minister along with the Council of Ministers takes a solemn oath of office, administered by the President of India. This oath, as prescribed in the Third Schedule of the Constitution, commits the Prime Minister to uphold the Constitution, execute duties faithfully, and serve the nation with integrity.
Unlike fixed-term offices, the Prime Minister does not have a constitutional term; rather, the tenure depends on maintaining the confidence of the Lok Sabha. As long as the Prime Minister retains majority support in the House, he continues in office.
The salary and allowances of the Prime Minister are determined by the Parliament through statutory instruments, reflecting the high level of responsibility attached to the role. These figures are periodically revised to match the stature and workload of the office.
