Trends in Centre–State Relations

Over the decades, Centre–State relations have evolved significantly under the influence of political, economic, and social changes. Constitutional amendments—especially those involving Articles 2 and 3—have empowered the Centre to reorganize state boundaries and alter the federal landscape. These changes often reflect a trend toward centralization, even as fiscal devolution via the Finance Commission has bolstered state autonomy.
