Description

Term and Vacancy of the Vice-President

The Vice-President holds office for a fixed term of five years as per constitutional provisions. However, similar to the President, the office continues until a successor is elected, ensuring no lapse in the continuity of the executive structure.

Vacancies may occur due to resignation, death, disqualification, or if the office becomes vacant for any other reason. In such events, a fresh election is conducted to fill the position promptly, maintaining the balance and stability in the upper chamber of Parliament where the Vice-President serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
