**Determiners** are words placed before nouns to tell us which one, whose, how many, or how much. Think of them as labels or pointers for nouns.
### Types of Determiners
- **Articles**: “a,” “an,” “the.”
- Example: “**The** cat is sleeping,” “I want **a** cookie.”
- **Demonstratives**: “this,” “that,” “these,” “those.”
- Example: “**This** toy is mine,” “Look at **those** birds.”
- **Possessives**: “my,” “your,” “his,” “her,” “our,” “their.”
- Example: “That is **my** book,” “**Their** house is big.”
- **Quantifiers**: “some,” “many,” “few,” “several.”
- Example: “I have **many** candies,” “There are **few** options.”
### Child-Friendly Examples
- “**A** dog ran across the road.” (We’re not sure which dog.)
- “**The** dog barked loudly.” (We know exactly which dog now.)
- “**My** dog is brown.” (Which dog? Mine!)
Determiners help us pinpoint or identify nouns precisely, so everyone knows exactly which person or thing we’re talking about.
