Molarity and Molality

Subject: Chemistry

Book: General Chemistry

Molarity (M) = moles of solute per liter of solution, whereas molality (m) = moles of solute per kilogram of solvent. Molarity depends on volume, which can change with temperature, making it less accurate in temperature-sensitive processes. Molality is independent of temperature because it relies on the mass of the solvent. Both measures are crucial in solution chemistry, especially when dealing with colligative properties.
