विराम चिह्न (punctuation marks) वाक्य में ठहराव, भाव, वाक्य-शिल्प तथा पढ़ने में सुविधा प्रदान करने के लिए प्रयोग होते हैं।
### प्रमुख विराम चिह्न
1. **पूर्णविराम (.)**: वाक्य समाप्ति पर प्रयुक्त।
2. **अल्पविराम (,)**: छोटे ठहराव के लिए या वाक्यांशों को अलग करने के लिए।
3. **प्रश्नवाचक चिह्न (?)**: प्रश्न वाले वाक्य के अंत में।
4. **विस्मयादिबोधक चिह्न (!)**: अचानक भाव, आश्चर्य, खुशी या दुःख प्रकट करने में।
5. **उद्धरण चिह्न (“ ”)**: किसी का कथन प्रत्यक्ष रूप से लिखने पर।
6. **कोलन (:)** और **सेमीकोलन (;)**: गिनती, सूचीकरण या वाक्यांश को अलग करने इत्यादि में (अंग्रेज़ी से प्रभावित)।
### हिंदी लेखन में सावधानियाँ
- प्रायः पूर्णविराम की जगह “।” का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
- आधुनिक लेखन में अंग्रेज़ी चिह्न जैसे ? ! “ ” ':' ; आदि भी प्रचलित हैं।
विराम चिह्नों के उचित प्रयोग से वाक्य स्पष्ट, क्रमबद्ध और अर्थपूर्ण बनता है, तथा पाठक को भाव समझने में सरलता मिलती है।
